Thanks to my friend Dave for the picture!Photography has always been a love of mine, ever since my parents bought me my first Kodak Instamatic camera when I was 8. (I still remember having to spit on the flashbulbs for whatever odd reason). I took a photography class in high school and learned all sorts of things that stuck with me. Composure, lighting, etc. Over the years, I progressed through all sorts of little cameras, 110's that took those skinny little cartridges, disposables, 35mm's, and cheap digitals. Everywhere my parents took me, I always had a camera in my hand. Maybe it's in my blood, I don't know.
Then it happened.
Xmas of 2006, after everyone tired of hearing about what a piece of crud my cheap digital camera was, I was given a Nikon D50. At first, I was overwhelmed, and thought, "This is WAY more camera than I could ever need". But alas, I fell in love with it. Nowadays, it can almost be considered a growth on my body. Everywhere I go, I think, "Wow, that would make a great photo!" The only thing I have to try to avoid is concentrating fully on "what a great picture this would make", and actually missing the scenery with my eyes. It's strange, but it happens!
Travel has also always been a major part of my life. (thank you Mom and Dad!) Now on my days off from the gallery, I grab the camera, hop in the truck, and away I go! I've taken more flights and road trips than I could even remember. And every place I go, I always run across things that make me slam on the brakes, back up on the roadside in a cloud of dust, grab the camera, jump out and start clicking.
There's just something about capturing the world for a split second. The way you're seeing it through that lens at that moment will never be exactly the same again. It's not just photography, it's a visual record of life.
P.S. This photography business has been funded in part by a generous grant from The Bank of Mom and Dad. (You've been to your own branch of that bank before...don't pretend you haven't...)
